Premier League betting guide

Twenty clubs, 380 matches and very few easy afternoons: here is how to read Premier League odds.

Updated October 5, 2026

Premier League betting odds attract more attention than any other football market in the world, which is exactly why they reward preparation. The English top flight is deep, physical and unpredictable in the bottom half, and prices move hard on team news. This page covers the format, the markets punters use most and what our model weighs before it prices an EPL match.

Format and season rhythm

Twenty clubs play each other home and away, 38 rounds from August to May. The bottom three go down and are replaced by three sides from the Championship. There is no winter break worth the name: the festive programme packs several rounds into a fortnight around Boxing Day, and clubs in European competition play Thursday or midweek before a weekend fixture. Squad rotation in those weeks is one of the most underrated inputs for a Premier League bet.

Popular Premier League markets

MarketWhat you backExample
1X2Home win, draw or away win after 90 minutesHome at 2.10 = 47.6 % implied
Over/under 2.5 goalsThree goals or more, or two or fewerOver at 1.85 = 54.1 % implied
Both teams to scoreEach side scores at least onceYes at 1.70 = 58.8 % implied
HandicapA side wins after a goal head start or deficitFavourite -1.5 needs a two-goal win

The handicap is the natural tool when a big six club hosts a promoted side: instead of taking 1.25 on the win, you ask whether they will win by two. Our Asian handicap guide explains quarter lines in detail.

How our model reads an EPL fixture

Each club carries an attack and a defence strength learnt from past results. Together with home advantage they give an expected number of goals for each side, and a Poisson distribution turns those into a full score grid, with a Dixon-Coles style correction because 0-0 and 1-1 happen a little more often than pure Poisson predicts. Every market on the page, from the draw to BTTS, comes from that one grid, so the prices are consistent with each other. Promoted clubs have little top-flight history, so their ratings carry more uncertainty in the opening weeks.

Tips specific to the Premier League

  • Line-ups are announced about an hour before kick-off and our markets close one minute before the start: there is a window to react.
  • Draws are frequent enough in mid-table meetings that "draw no bet" style thinking pays off; see betting markets explained.
  • After a European away trip, discount a club's usual pressing intensity.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Premier League 1X2 include extra time?

No. League matches have no extra time, and the 1X2 is settled on the result after 90 minutes plus stoppage time.

Why do Premier League odds move on Friday and Saturday?

Press conferences, injury news and confirmed line-ups change the expected goals of each side. Our prices are recalculated as the inputs change, until the market closes one minute before kick-off.
