Winter sports betting: alpine skiing, biathlon and more

From November to March, the World Cup circuits offer races almost every weekend, each with its own variables.

Updated October 5, 2026

Winter sports betting follows the World Cup calendars, with world championships and the Winter Olympics in some seasons. The markets are similar across disciplines: race winner, podium or top-six finish, head-to-head between two athletes, and the overall World Cup standings. What decides each discipline differs a lot.

Alpine skiing

Downhill and super-G are speed events where gliding and courage matter; giant slalom and slalom are technical, run in two legs. Specialists rarely shine in both families. Start number and changing snow or light conditions can help or hurt.

Biathlon

Cross-country skiing plus shooting. Each missed target costs a penalty loop or a time penalty, so a fast skier who shoots badly in wind can drop out of contention. Pursuit and mass start formats reward strong shooters under pressure.

Ski jumping

Distance and style points, with wind compensation. Gusty conditions make results more random, and the competition can be cut to one round.

Cross-country

Sprints, distance races and mass starts; wax choice and snow temperature are hidden factors.

Worked example: a slalom favourite at 2.50 implies 40 %, but even the best slalom skiers regularly fail to finish a technical race by straddling a gate. Head-to-heads let you back consistency rather than outright speed.

Frequently asked questions

How do skiing head-to-head bets work?

You choose which of two skiers will finish higher in the race, whatever their actual positions. If one fails to finish, rules on settlement apply.

Why is biathlon hard to predict?

Shooting adds a large random factor: wind, pressure and fatigue can turn a clear favourite into a mid-field finisher in one range visit.
