League of Legends Worlds betting guide
Once a year the best teams from every region meet, and the hardest question is how strong each region really is.

LoL Worlds betting odds price the League of Legends World Championship, the biggest event on the esports calendar. It is played every autumn, usually from late September to early November, and brings together the top teams from Korea, China, Europe, North America and the other regions. For bettors, it is the one time of the year when regions that never meet in league play face each other repeatedly.
Worlds format
The structure has evolved, but recent editions follow a pattern: a play-in phase for lower-seeded teams, a Swiss stage in which teams with the same record face each other until they reach a set number of wins or losses, and then single-elimination knockouts in best of five, from the quarter-finals to the final. Swiss rounds mix best-of-one and best-of-three series, with the decisive qualification and elimination matches usually in best of three.
The cross-region problem
Domestic results are measured against domestic opponents. A team that dominates a weaker region may be overrated, and a third seed from a strong league underrated. Elo ratings help because international results at the Mid-Season Invitational and previous Worlds link the regions together, but the sample is small. Early Swiss rounds are where this uncertainty is largest, and it shrinks as the tournament produces results.
Patch and meta
Worlds is played on a fixed patch decided in advance. Teams bootcamp on it for weeks, and the ones that read the new meta fastest often outperform their regular-season form. Watch the first Swiss days for which picks and styles are winning.
Best of five: what it changes
A team with a 60 % chance per map wins a best of five about 68.3 % of the time, against 64.8 % in a best of three. Correct score markets get richer too: 3-0, 3-1, 3-2 and their mirrors. A -1.5 map handicap in best of five pays if the favourite wins 3-0 or 3-1, which with 60 % per map happens about 47.5 % of the time.
